Parsha Toldot Aliyah 1

Bereishit (Genesis) 25:19—26:5

Chapter 25

19And these are the offspring of you Yitzchak son of Abraham-Abraham begot Yitzchak. 20Yitzchak was forty years old when he took Rivkah, daughter of the Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram, sister of Lavan the Aramean, as a wife for himself. 21Yitzchak entreated HaShem opposite his wife, because she was barren, HaShem allowed himself to be entreated by him, and his wife Rivkah conceived.

22The children aggregated within her, and she said, “If so, why am I at this?” And she went to inquire of HaShem.

23And HaShem said to her: “Two nations are in your womb; two regimes from your insides shall be separated; them. I shall pass from one regime to the other, and the elder shall serve the younger.”

24When her term to bear grew full, then behold! there were twins and her womb. 25The first one emerged red, entirely like a harry mantel; so they named him Esau. 26After that, his brother emerged with his hand grasping on to the heel of Esau; so he called his name Yaakov; Yitzchak was sixty years old when she bore them.

27The lads grew up and Esau became one who knows trapping, a man of the field; but Yaakov was a perfect man, abiding in tents. 28Yitzchak loved Esau for game was in his mouth; but Rivkah loved Yaakov.

29Yaakov simmered a stew, and Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. 30Esau said to Yaakov, “Pour into me, now, some of the very red stuff for I am exhausted.” (He therefore called his name he Edom.)

31Yaakov said, “Sell, as this day, your birthright to me.”

32And Esau said, “Look, I am going to die, so what used to me is a birthright?”

33Yaakov said “Swear to me, as this day.”; He swore to him and sold his birthright to Yaakov. 34Yaakov gave Esau and lentil stew, and he ate and drank, got up and left; thus, Esau spurned the birthright.

Chapter 26

1There was a famine in the land, aside from the first famine that was in the days of Abraham; and Yitzchak went to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, to Gerar. 2HaShem appeared to him and said, “Do not descend to Egypt; dwell in the land that I shall indicate to you. 3Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your offspring will I give all these lands, and established that both that I swore to Abraham your father. 4I will increase your offspring like the stars of the heavens; and give to your offspring all these lands; and all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves by your offspring. 5Because Abraham obeyed My voice, and observed My safeguards, My commandments, My decrees, and My Torahs.”
